The gigantic weather system, which threatens to be the largest storm ever to hit the United States of America mainland, strengthened Monday as it brought winds of 90 mph and sent a massive storm surge crashing into coastal towns and cities. The sandy storm has made a lot of mess. Coastal areas are all flooded, Damaged homes, hundreds killed and missing.
Sandy was moving quickly toward New Jersey and Delaware. At 5 p.m. (2100 GMT), the hurricane was 30 miles (45 km) east-southeast of Cape May, New Jersey, and about 40 miles (65 km) south of Atlantic City, New Jersey, the National Hurricane Center said.
